A sober companion is not there to control someone's life. The role is to provide direct, practical support during moments where the person is more exposed to old habits, emotional pressure or impulsive decisions.
Why the period after rehab matters
Rehab creates space, but real life returns quickly. Travel, family conflict, old friends, money, work stress and loneliness can all hit before a person has built enough recovery structure. This is where sober companion support can help.
What the work can include
- Travel support from treatment to home, another country or a recovery setting.
- Daily routine, accountability and planning in early recovery.
- Support attending meetings, appointments or family conversations.
- Calm help during cravings, pressure, arguments or high-risk situations.
- Remote check-ins between in-person support days.
What it does not replace
Sober companion work does not replace detox, emergency medical care, therapy, psychiatric support or residential treatment when those are needed. It is best used as part of a wider plan, especially around transition points.
Where Darren can help
Darren can provide sober companion support in Bali, Spain and England by arrangement, with remote support available where that fits better. Families can also use a first call to decide whether counselling, intervention planning, referral support or companion work is most appropriate.
